A solidarity show to concretely support the Turin Lions Club project regarding the training of a guide dog for the blind: this is the meaning of the show “Dancing in New York”, staged on Tuesday 31 January at 8.30 pm at the Teatro Astra in Turin.
The “charity” project, which provides for fundraising to support the complete training of a guide dog for the blind at the Lions guide dog center in Limbiate (Milan), was conceived by the Lions Club Torino New Century with the contribution of the Lions Clubs Crocetta Duca d’Aosta, Valentino Futura, Cittadella Ducale, Europa, Risorgimento, Taurasia, Torino 2 and Torino Stupinigi.
“For us, this initiative represents a tangible way of doing good – underlines Anna Trompetto, president of the Lions Club New Century -, we want to raise sufficient funds for the complete training of a fundamental element for the life and independence of a blind person, a guardian angel who is truly much more than a dog and who gives security to those who have lost the precious sight».
The show, conceived by Adriana Cava and Enzo Scudieri, represents an unprecedented and virtual journey that takes the public along the streets of the “Big Apple”, retracing places that have become legendary such as Central Park, Ground Zero, The Village, thus allowing spectators to enjoy the symbolic places of this metropolis that has become an icon of fashion, the arts and the avant-garde in the world.
Enzo Scudieri is a dancer in the company directed by Adriana Cava and together with her he directed and choreographed the show Dancing in New York. In the past, he gained numerous experiences as a dancer both in theater and on TV, working with Bejart Ballet Lausanne, Brian Bullard, AB Company, Signal.it, Compagnia di Danza Il Gabbiano, Compagnia X Per, CorpusLab, Nichos Lagousakos.
Whizzing along the rails of an imaginary highline (elevated railway) the show crosses the city from “Down Town” to “Up Town” revealing its most hidden corners, its magic, its unknown beauties. A story made up of dancing bodies that move to the notes of the music that made New York unforgettable.
“I am really pleased to support this solidarity project of the Turin Lions Clubs, a useful and important initiative  – explains Adriana Cava, artistic director of the company of the same name   -, with the primary purpose of contributing to the training of a guide dog for a blind person. We want to give hope and joy to the public despite the difficult period we are going through, giving space to generosity”.
From the constant exchange of experiences with great masters and choreographers, Adriana Cava has been able to create her own style linked to a particular sensitivity to the most current jazz and rock music: a style characterized both by a high technical level and by a great expressiveness.
Since its formation, the Adriana Cava Dance Company has been firmly determined to enhance jazz dance: every year the company organizes numerous shows on tour in Italy and abroad, regularly participating in the most important reviews and festivals.
Composed of twelve stable dancers, the company is often joined by international etoiles, boasting important collaborations with choreographers such as Andrè De La Roche, Steve La Chance, Vinicio Mainini, Thierry Sirou and with protagonists of important musicals such as Fabrizio Voghera, Tania Tuccinardi, Ilaria De Angelis, Laura Ruocco and Antonello Angiolillo.
